The following is adapted from a "Letter to the Editor" published by several area newspapers in November, 2005. Although the specific property tax increase then under discussion was approved by the County Board, Richard Dunn's position against future tax increases remains intact. The public needs to be informed that the DuPage County Board is hiking the property tax. At the Board meeting of November 22, 2005, I spoke against the approximately $2,600,000 and 4.2 % property tax rate increase. These increased costs are a burden for those on a fixed income and for the poor. Also, the tax increase incurs additional costs for businesses that pay property taxes. All property owners will pay more tax. If elected I will work to implement procedures that will ensure no further property tax increases. These will include:
The Board needs to have members who will provide input which will better represent poor, fixed income families and other property tax payers that are stretched to their limit. My 30+ years working in local government has given me the experience and understanding necessary to pursue the above cost-cutting measures.
